Texas A&M University students interested in joining thousands of Aggies in giving back to the Bryan-College Station community during the 37th Annual Big Event now have until Friday, March 1 to register.

“Big Event gives Aggies a unique opportunity to meet the people in our community and say thank you for the support we receive,” Big Event Director Reese Svetgoff said. “There is no better way for Aggies to give thanks than by living up to our Core Values and selflessly serving, and I invite every Aggie to take part any way they can.”

Big Event, the largest one-day, student-led service project in the nation, is scheduled for Saturday, March 30. Students have the option to create a group, join an existing group or sign up as an individual to take on volunteer service project in the community.

Last year, more than 20,000 student volunteers completed service projects for more than 2,500 area residents that included yard work, window washing and house painting among many others.

The 37-year-old tradition was born when six Aggies volunteered to clean up a local cemetery in 1982 as a way to thank the community that welcomed them when they came to study at Texas A&M. Aggies have completed nearly 1 million service hours since.

This year, thousands of Aggies will gather at Kyle Field Plaza for a kickoff event and remarks from a surprise guest speaker.
