Gov. Perry Appoints Three To A&M System Board Of Regents

Governor Rick Perry on Monday announced the appointment of three individuals to The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.

Governor Rick Perry on Monday announced the appointment of three individuals to The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents for terms to expire Feb. 1, 2017. The new members are Judy Morgan of Texarkana, Cliff Thomas of Victoria and Elaine Mendoza of San Antonio.

Morgan is owner and president of Jack B. Kelley Enterprises Inc. She also is president of the Women for Texas A&M University-Texarkana Board and a member of the U.S. Compressed Gas Association. She is founder and past president of the Texarkana Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, co-founder and past president of Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council, co-founder of Texarkana Women for the Arts, and past president of the Sustainers of the Junior League of Texarkana. She is past president of the Wadley Regional Medical Center Foundation Board and St. James Day School Board of Directors, and a past member of the Texas A&M-Texarkana Engineering IT School Endowment Board. Morgan received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston and a Master of Business Administration from Texas A&M-Texarkana.

Cliff Thomas of Victoria is owner and CEO of Thomas Petroleum LLC, Speedy Stop Food Stores and C.L. Thomas Inc. He is a member of the Texas Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association and the National Association of Convenience Stores. He also is a past board member of the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, DeTar Hospital System and Wells Fargo Bank. Thomas received a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University.

Elaine Mendoza of San Antonio is president and CEO of Conceptual MindWorks Inc. She is a member of P16Plus Council of Greater Bexar County, board member of Generation Texas San Antonio and a member and past vice chair of the San Antonio Greater Chamber of Commerce. Mendoza also is a member and past chair of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Alamo Workforce Development Inc. She is a past member of the Task Force on Access to Health Care in Texas and a past board member of the San Antonio Children’s Museum, San Antonio Medical Foundation, Texas Healthcare Trustees, Accion Texas, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health Care, and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Mendoza received a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University.

These appointments are subject to Senate confirmation. The new members will replace outgoing regents Lupe Fraga of Houston, Gene Stallings of Powderly and Ida Clement Steen of San Antonio.
