Eight Outstanding Faculty Members Garner University Honors For Teaching

Faculty Affairs announces university and presidential professorships for teaching excellence.

Texas A&M University announces honors for eight faculty members for excellence in teaching.

Two members of the faculty were honored with the 2024 Presidential Professor for Teaching Excellence (PPTE) Award, which is conferred upon the most prestigious teachers at the university. Recipients exhibit a profound commitment to excellence in teaching as indicated by both scholarship of teaching and learning within their discipline and impacts upon their students and colleagues. At the time of nomination, candidates must have at least five years of full-time service to Texas A&M University and should have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence, including college-level teaching awards.

Presidential Professors receive a certificate, a commemorative medallion. and a monetary award of $25,000.  Awardees bear the designation “Presidential Professor for Teaching Excellence” for the rest of their careers.

The 2024 recipients of the Presidential Professor for Teaching Excellence are:

  • Tryon Wickersham, Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
  • Robert “Jay” Woodward, Department of Educational Psychology, School of Education and Human Development

Six faculty members were honored with the University Professorships for Undergraduate Teaching Excellence (UPUTE), awards conferred upon the most accomplished teachers of undergraduates at the university. These professors are not only exceptional instructors, but also are innovators in pedagogy, exploring new teaching methods and seeking engagement with other educators in pursuit of excellence.

University Professorships for Undergraduate Teaching Excellence carry a three-year monetary award and a bursary to support teaching and expand opportunities for professional development. Faculty members who are selected for these professorships are expected to be actively involved in faculty development programs for teaching for the duration of their award.

University Professorships for Undergraduate Teaching Excellence are made possible through generous endowments by George and Irma Eppright, John I. Kincaid and Arthur J. and Wilhelmina Doré Thaman.

The 2024 recipients of the University Professorships for Undergraduate Teaching Excellence are:

  • Joanna Goodey-Pellois, Department of Chemistry, College of Arts and Sciences
  • Darren Hartl, Department of Aerospace Engineering, College of Engineering
  • Andy Herring, Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
  • Sandra Scamardo Lampo, Department of Marketing, Mays Business School
  • Alison Pittman, School of Nursing
  • Robin Rackley, Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture, School of Education and Human Development
