Texas A&M football fans have a limited amount of time remaining to explore the history of Aggie football through an exhibit at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

“A Spirit Can Ne’er Be Told … A Century of Aggie Football” will end its eight-month run on April 28.

The exhibit showcases the history of Aggie football through artifacts, photographs, documents and interactive displays chronicling the accomplishments, coaches and players, starting with the first official game in 1894.

Amy Raines, the Bush Library and Museum’s marketing and communications director, called it a “homegrown exhibit,” designed and developed by the museum team. Artifacts on display in the exhibit are on loan from various donors, including the Texas A&M Lettermen’s Association, the George & Barbara Bush Foundation, former head coach R.C. Slocum and former players Von Miller and Johnny Manziel.

The exhibit includes the stories of notable coaches and players and how football has transformed the spirit of Aggieland.

Raines said the exhibit accomplished the museum team’s goal of giving visitors a glimpse of what it means to be a part of the 12th Man.

In addition to showcasing the evolution of Kyle Field, Reveille, the Corps of Cadets and university traditions, the exhibit highlights President Bush’s connection to Texas A&M and his love for Aggie football.

Slocum, who has a place in the exhibit as the winningest coach in Texas A&M football history and a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, said the former president would visit with him often and the two of them attended many Aggie games together. Slocum said President Bush loved Aggie athletics and getting to know the athletes personally.

The exhibit, he said, acknowledges Bush’s impact on Texas A&M and his support of Aggie athletics.

The museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. For more information about the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, visit bush41.org.
