Texas A&M University Mental Health and Suicide Awareness Week Feb. 26-Mar 1. tx.ag/MHSAW

Texas A&M University Health Services will once again raise awareness, reduce stigma and offer support through its second Mental Health & Suicide Awareness Week, a collaborative effort taking place Feb. 26-March 1. The event aims to unite groups across campus to address mental health concerns faced by college students.

Campus partners like the Student Government Association (SGA), the Graduate & Professional Student Government (GPSG) and Aggie Dining have joined University Health Services to facilitate a wide range of opportunities to learn more about mental health and available resources and support.

Students can participate in suicide awareness and prevention training opportunities, enjoy a free beverage and an informal conversation with a University Health Services counselor at Coffee with a Counselor, or unwind with the mindfulness-focused “Stretch Out & Breathe” yoga session. Wrapping up the week, Texas A&M HelpLine, F.A.C.E. Mental Health, the Federation of Aggie Moms and GPSG will join forces for a resource table in Rudder Plaza on March 1.

New to Mental Health & Suicide Awareness Week, “Restricting Access to Lethal Means: Creating Safer Communities,” offers an opportunity to learn more about the safe storage and disposal of medication, the importance and proper use of gun locks, and mental health resources. The collaborative presentation will be facilitated by the Assistance, Connection and Engagement Services (ACES) Co-Responder Team — a newly forged partnership between University Health Services and University Police Department — and a team of local resource directors.

Mental Health & Suicide Awareness Week unites organizations throughout the Texas A&M System — with events taking place on multiple campuses — and organizations from the surrounding area, garnering support at every level of the Aggie community and driving home the point that “No Aggie Stands Alone.”
