Texas A&M Returns To Fort Worth Stock Show And Rodeo
Aggies from across the state converged at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Thursday for the second annual Texas A&M Day. The event highlighted Texas A&M-Fort Worth, the anchor campus for a technology and innovation district planned around the development of the city’s proposed new downtown innovation district.
Texas A&M leaders participating in the grand entry to the rodeo were Chancellor John Sharp and his wife; School of Law Dean Bobby Ahdieh; Regent Mike Hernandez; Nim Kidd, chief of the Texas Division of Emergency Management and Vice Chancellor for Disaster and Emergency Services; and Kim McCuiston, Associate Vice Chancellor and the inaugural director for the Texas A&M University System’s Fort Worth campus. Also in attendance were Bill Mahomes, chairman of the Board of Regents, the Parsons Mounted Cavalry, Aggie Rodeo, Yell Leaders and the Singing Cadets.
While this is the second year Texas A&M has had an official day at the oldest continuously running livestock show and rodeo, the university has a longstanding connection to both the event itself and the city of Fort Worth.
Approximately 100,000 current and former students live in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and the School of Law School is celebrating 10 years in Fort Worth this academic year. Last fall, the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo presented Texas A&M with $45,000 in scholarships to support students at both the flagship campus and schools throughout the A&M System.
In June 2023, the Texas A&M University System broke ground on the first of three phases for Texas A&M-Fort Worth. When completed, the campus will provide a Tier One backbone of research and education coupled with a diverse range of innovative education, workforce development, technology and service programs in the areas of law, engineering, agriculture, emergency management and health sciences, among others.
Officials hope the development sector endeavor will become a magnet for economic growth in the North Texas region.
