The MSC Wiley Lecture Series at Texas A&M University is hosting its 2023 Main Program, “Rethinking American Intervention,” Tuesday, Nov. 14, featuring former U.S. Ambassador to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchison, former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton and former Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Juliette Kayyem.

“Rethinking American Intervention” will be a moderated discussion exploring different positions on U.S. involvement in foreign countries and the effectiveness of U.S. intervention in other nations.

“With recent events around the world, it has never been more important to understand the United States’ place in the world,” said Jackson Grant, MSC Wiley chair. “The MSC Wiley Main Program is the perfect forum to discuss this important matter.”

This discussion will cover America’s history of foreign military intervention over the last half-century, and how policy makers have adapted to the ever-changing world of global politics. The discussion will also address policy decisions affecting global stability and how leaders arrive at those decisions. The recent Russian-Ukraine conflict, further escalation in Asia, and the effects of the withdrawal from Afghanistan have reinvigorated the dialogue surrounding the implications on the role of the United States in world affairs and will be incorporated into the discussion.

“We live in an age of heavy political and social polarization. It is very hard to find truly neutral third-party entities anymore,” said Gracie Reeves, a former student who worked on the event prior to her graduation last spring. “As a non-partisan committee, MSC Wiley aims to educate students for the purpose of allowing students to form their own opinions on national and global issues without forcing a certain political agenda. I am excited MSC Wiley is bringing such knowledgeable leaders to campus to talk about such a vital topic for the Main Program.”

The program begins at 7 p.m. in Rudder Theatre and tickets are available at the MSC Box Office. To purchase tickets in advance, visit boxoffice.tamu.edu or call 979-845-1234.
