As part of Texas A&M University’s ongoing effort to serve and unite military veterans across campus, Vice President for Student Affairs Brig. Gen. Joe E. Ramirez, Jr. ’79 is inviting veteran students, faculty and staff to a tailgate in Aggie Park on Sept. 9 to watch the Texas A&M football team’s away game against Miami.

The first-ever All-Aggie Veteran Tailgate and Watch Party will be held from 1-6 p.m., featuring free barbecue, appearances by Reveille X and the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band, and an 18-foot screen to watch the Aggies take on the Hurricanes.

“After talking to many veterans on campus, we felt that we needed to find a way to bring our veterans – students, staff, and faculty alike — together to meet each other, share stories and experiences, and enjoy spending time together as Texas Aggies,” Ramirez said. “After discussions with members of the VRSC, we all agreed that a football game tailgate and watch party in Aggie Park was a perfect way to do that.”

Texas A&M is currently home to around 1,100 student veterans and over 750 veteran faculty and staff, all of whom are invited to bring their families for an afternoon of fun and camaraderie.

“This first All-Aggie Veteran Tailgate and Watch Party is a small way to bring our veterans and their families together for some fellowship and Aggie Spirit, and to say ‘thanks’ to them for all that they have done for all of us,” Ramirez said.
