Texas A&M University and The University of Texas at Austin today announced the conclusion of the “Maroon and Orange: Texas Tough” campaign with a total of $235,021 raised to benefit students from both schools who were affected by the freeze that swept the state last month.

Texas A&M Student Body President Eric Mendoza worked with his counterpart at UT, Student Government President Anagha Kikkeri, to launch the 12-day crowdfunding effort, saying Aggie and Longhorn students alike were affected by the winter storm that caused widespread power outages and other damage estimated to have cost the state $90 billion in losses.

The funds raised can be used by students for such things as replacing spoiled food from power outages, purchasing personal items and school supplies destroyed by water damage, and paying bills.

“The strength of our Aggie family shines best when called to action, this time was no different,” Mendoza said. “I want to thank the hundreds of Aggies who answered our call in direct support of current students in need. Our ability to partner with UT only helped to further highlight the need, and I am so pleased with the overall impact this has created for Texas students – Aggies and Longhorns alike.”

Texas A&M students who would like to apply must speak with a financial aid advisor and complete the emergency aid application. Grants will be added to students’ financial aid portal.

Although the campaign has ended, Texas A&M is still collecting donations through March 26 at spiritofgiving.tamu.edu.
