The Big Event at Texas A&M University is anticipated to take place during spring 2021. A final date for the event is forthcoming.

The Big Event is a one-day service project in which Aggie student volunteers perform jobs for local community members, such as painting and yard-work.

Registration is currently open to students and members of the Bryan-College Station community:

“We are excited to announce The Big Event will be returning to Aggieland this coming spring semester,” said Kristin Guzak, director of The Big Event. “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, last year’s event was canceled, and since that time we have worked tirelessly to design a plan that keeps both our student volunteers and community members safe.”

After collaborating with the cities of Bryan and College Station, the Brazos County Health District, and the Texas A&M University COVID-19 Task Force, the student-run organization was given the green light to host the event in the spring. The event will adhere to all national, state and local guidelines concerning COVID-19 to ensure that all residents, students and staff members remain safe and healthy. Organizers note that plans may need to be adjusted as they are contingent upon health and safety conditions and guidelines at the time the event is set to take place.

“We realize the importance of selfless service, especially during this time, and we are so thankful for the opportunity to bring selfless service to the community that supports Texas A&M so graciously,” Guzak said.

About The Big Event:  Since its introduction in 1982, The Big Event has become the largest, one-day, student-run service project in the nation. Each spring, approximately 20,000 Texas A&M students come together to say “Thank You” to the residents of Bryan and College Station. For the past 38 years, Aggie students have participated in this annual day of service to show their appreciation to the surrounding community, completing service projects such as yard work, window washing, and painting for residents of the community. Although The Big Event has become the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation, our message and our mission remain the same – to simply say “Thank You.” Through service-oriented activities, The Big Event promotes campus and community unity as students come together for one day to express their gratitude for the support from the surrounding community.
