2020 Aggie Greek Award Recipients Announced

The awards honor members of the Texas A&M fraternity and sorority community who exemplify the Aggie core values.

The Texas A&M University Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life, The Greek Former Student Network and The Association of Former Students have announced this year’s recipients of the Aggie Greek Awards. The annual awards presentation ceremony was cancelled due to COVID-19.

This recognition highlights the accomplishments of the fraternity and sorority community by awarding individuals, volunteers, alumni and organizations for exemplifying the university’s six core values: respect, excellence, leadership, loyalty, integrity, and selfless service.

The 2020 award recipients are:

Chapter Awards

Integrity Award
This chapter is honored as a model for upholding the high ethical standard which Texas A&M expects of all its students.

  • Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Leadership Award
This chapter embodies the Aggie core value of leadership and uses its ability to empower and inspire others.

  • Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Loyalty Award
This chapter was judged to have a moral character that aligns with its fraternal values and empowers its members to be ambassadors of the Aggie Network.

  • Delta Gamma

Respect Award
The recipient of this award demonstrates unwavering regard and support for Texas A&M, its mission and values. The organization is highly regarded by other chapters for demonstrating a friendly and caring attitude towards others.

  • Delta Zeta

Selfless Service Award
This award is presented to a chapter that has demonstrated selfless service above and beyond the expected chapter philanthropies.

  • Kappa Kappa Gamma

Excellence Awards
This award is presented to one sorority and one fraternity that show outstanding merit and a commitment to upholding superior standards by maintaining a high chapter GPR, recruiting outstanding new members or making a tangible difference in the community.

  • Sorority – Delta Delta Delta
  • Fraternity – No applications submitted

Outstanding Community Relations Award
This chapter is recognized for excellence in public relations, campus organization involvement, campus leadership, considerable involvement off campus and innovative outreach to former students.

  • Pi Beta Phi

Chapters of the Year
Awarded to the Chapter of the Year in each council: Interfraternity Council (IFC), College Panhellenic Council (CPC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and National Multicultural Greek Council (NMGC).

  • CPC – Kappa Delta
  • IFC – Pi Kappa Alpha
  • MGC – Gamma Phi Omega International Sorority, Inc.
  • NPHC – Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Individual Awards

Rising Star Awards
These awards recognize emerging leaders from each of the four councils whose records reflect ongoing and exceptional growth in contributions, and increased levels of leadership and responsibility.

  • CPC Rising Star – Virginia Krog, Kappa Alpha Theta
  • IFC Rising Star – Josh Feldman, Sigma Alpha Mu
  • MGC Rising Star – Rebbekah Perez, Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority, Inc.
  • NPHC Rising Star – Garrett Montague, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

Aggie Greek Unsung Hero
This award recognizes a faculty or staff member, affiliated or not, who supports the Aggie Greek community in an extraordinary way.

  • Chanda Elbert, associate professor, Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications

Advisors of the Year
These individuals are recognized for their extraordinary commitment to mentoring and guiding Aggie Greeks.

  • Fraternity Advisor of the Year: Col. Mark Johnson, advisor of Pi Kappa Alpha
  • Sorority Advisor of the Year: Liesl Wesson, advisor of Pi Beta Phi

Fraternity Man and Sorority Woman of the Year
This award honors a current student who is a role model within his fraternity and her sorority. They are determined to be respected leaders in the community, has strong academic records and pledge to live in accordance with their organizations’ values.

  • Mikey Jaillet, Sigma Chi
  • Briana Fabela, Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority, Inc.

President’s Award for Outstanding Greek Ambassador
This award is given to a fraternity or sorority man or woman who not only has maintained high academic achievement but has also served as an outstanding ambassador for the fraternity and sorority community at Texas A&M University. The individual who receives this award embodies all Aggie core values and is an excellent example of philanthropy, campus involvement, service, educational achievement, and leadership to their chapter. This award recipient will also receive a $1,000 scholarship.

  • Zachary Mendoza, Phi Delta Theta

The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life is a fundamental part of Texas A&M University.  It is home to 57 inter/nationally affiliated and local Greek-lettered organizations, which collectively constitute the largest member-based and multi-faceted community on campus. Representing 10% of the undergraduate student population, fraternity and sorority members are committed to their academics, developing and strengthening their leadership skills, volunteering time in the community, and continually forming a campus and cultural support network for current and incoming Aggies. Fraternities and sororities have enhanced the lives of more than 22,500 Aggies since their inception.

The Greek Former Student Network connects Greek former students, stimulates interest in and loyalty to Texas A&M, and provides intergenerational programs that further the educational and charitable interests of the Greek letter organizations, Texas A&M and The Association.
