Student Affairs Departments Prepare For Move To New Student Services Building

Four Texas A&M University Division of Student Affairs departments will begin a permanent move in December from the White Creek area of West Campus to the new Student Services Building, including:

Counseling & Psychological Services
Disability Resources
Residence Life
Offices of the Dean of Student Life

The new building is located on the corner of Lamar and Houston streets in the heart of campus near Rudder Tower. It sits to the west of Military Walk on the former site of Bizzell Hall. The building was designed to enhance and activate the communal core of campus by encouraging student interaction and collaboration among its resident departments.

A portion of the building will open for the Residence Life housing assignments office on Dec. 3, Students may access the housing assignments office from the ground level entrance off Military Walk. The entire building will be open for students on Jan. 2, 2020, and the Division of Student Affairs will host a grand opening on Jan. 22, 2020.

“We are excited about this new building,” said Dean of Student Life Anne Reber. “It shows our passion for students and provides a wonderful hub for multiple student-focused programs and resources in the Division of Student Affairs.”

Tall windows and inviting entryways highlight the warm, highly visible and easily accessible building. Disability Resources will open a new testing center on the first floor with locker storage and double the individual testing rooms. The remaining three floors will be shared by the Offices of the Dean of Student Life, Residence Life, and Counseling & Psychological Services. These floors will also have open study space, private student space, and leadership and community conference spaces.

Lake Flato and PBK architects designed the 95,000-square-foot building, and construction was managed by Vaughn Construction at a cost of $42.6 million and built to LEED Silver Standards for green buildings. It will showcase custom art installations by visual artist Resa Blatman and a sculptor Roger Stroller.
