The Big Event 2019 Speakers, Schedule Info

The Big Event organizers announced that Texas A&M University President Michael K. Young and Zachry Group CEO John B. Zachry, class of 1984, will deliver remarks to rally nearly 19,000 student volunteers in Kyle Field Plaza before the 37th Annual Big Event Saturday, March 30.

Organizers also released a general schedule for the day, which includes Zumba, remarks from speakers, cannon fire and tool distribution before they take on service projects for nearly 2,400 area residents.

8 a.m. – 9 a.m.

  • Parking in West Campus
  • Kickoff and check-in begins, participants begin to arrive
  • 8:40 a.m. – Zumba

9 a.m. – 9:35 a.m.

  • Kickoff Ceremony begins – 9:10am
  • Keynote speaker remarks
  • 9:35 a.m. – Cannon fires
    • All participants walk to Lot 61
    • Tool distribution begins

9:35 a.m. – 10 a.m.

  • Tool distribution

10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

  • Participants serve residents
  • Participants bring back tools to Lot 61

Last year, more than 20,000 student volunteers completed service projects for more than 2,500 area residents that included yard work, window washing and house painting among many others.

The 37-year-old tradition was born when six Aggies volunteered to clean up a local cemetery in 1982 as a way to thank the community that welcomed them when they came to study at Texas A&M. This year, Aggies will have volunteered over 1 million service hours since the first Big Event.
