Texas A&M University President Michael K. Young will take part in a discussion on higher education costs versus value for the “Economics of Higher Ed” panel at the Texas Tribune Festival this Friday, Sept. 28 at 8:30 a.m.

“The Texas Tribune Festival offers a unique platform in thought leadership and engagement,” said Michael K. Young, president, Texas A&M University. “I’m honored to participate in a panel about the value of higher education – the challenges, opportunities and innovative approaches that I witness every day in my role as we work to fulfill our mission of educating tomorrow’s leaders.”

Money magazine ranked Texas A&M the best value for a public university in Texas.

The panel discussion moderated by Texas Tribune Higher Education reporter Shannon Najmabadi will also feature former Texas Tech University System Chancellor Robert Duncan, Texas State University System Chancellor Brian McCall, University of Texas at El Paso President Diana Natalicio and State Senator Royce West.

Texas A&M’s presence at the Texas Tribune Festival also includes Jennifer Mercieca, a historian of American political discourse and a campaign rhetoric expert. She will speak with Austin American-Statesman chief political writer Jonathan Tilove and BuzzFeed’s Charlie Warzel for “Demagogue for President: The Rhetorical Brilliance of Donald Trump” Saturday, Sept. 29 at 9 a.m. The event is part of Open Congress, a free, open-to-the-public street festival held on Austin’s Congress Ave.

She will also join Slate’s Mike Pesca for a taping of The Gist podcast.

In addition to panel discussions, Texas A&M will showcase the “Beyond Texas” virtual reality experience. The interactive event will take place in the lobby of the Texas Public Policy Foundation at 901 Congress Ave. Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29.
