Staff Appreciation Week (SAW) at Texas A&M University is scheduled for Monday, April 23, through Saturday, April 28. The week will feature a variety of activities designed to inform, enlighten and celebrate the thousands of non-faculty employees who help the university thrive.

“For the fifth year, we have invited staff to set aside time to learn, to network, to have some on-the-job fun, and to take advantage of several community and campus discounts,” said Dr. Barbara Abercrombie, Texas A&M’s vice president for Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness. “With President Young’s support, Staff Appreciation Week events have been greatly enhanced and participation has grown.  We are confident that this will be our biggest and best year ever!”

SAW kicks off with the President’s Meritorious Service Awards (PMSA) on Monday, April 23, at 3:30 p.m. at the MSC Bethancourt Ballroom, with a reception to follow. The President’s Meritorious Service Awards, proudly supported by The Association of Former Students, recognize outstanding individuals, supervisors, and teams for demonstrating their commitment to the Aggie core values of excellence, integrity, leadership, loyalty, respect and selfless service.

Tuesday, April 24, is Staff Development Day, with the theme “Engage. Encourage. Empower.” Texas A&M President Michael K. Young will give the morning’s keynote address, followed by sessions on leadership development and encouragement, and Texas A&M Provost Dr. Carol Fierke will give the afternoon’s keynote address, followed by sessions on work-life balance and personal branding. A luncheon will be held between sessions to allow staff the opportunity to connect with their colleagues.

Wednesday, April 25, is Department Appreciation Day, when all units are encouraged to host activities for their own staff. President Young is again encouraging 100 percent participation in unit-hosted events/activities by offering a grant contest for photo entries of unit events. Winners may use the grants for future staff appreciation and/or professional development efforts.

Thursday, April 26, is Community Discount Day, when staff are invited to take advantage of discounts and other perks offered by participating local merchants (including discounted tickets for faculty and staff for Texas A&M baseball and softball games).

Friday, April 27, focuses on health and well-being with the Maroon and White Walk across campus to the Rec Center, where staff can participate in Fitness Friday.

Staff are invited bring their friends, families and pets (dogs and cats) to campus on the morning of Saturday, April 28, for Staff Photo Day, when professional photographers will be stationed at various iconic locations across campus.
