Trammell S. Crow Presented Inaugural ‘Public Health Hero Award’

Trammell S. Crow, founder of Earth Day Texas, is the inaugural recipient of the Public Health Hero Award presented by the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Public Health. Crow was honored for his leadership role in supporting key environmental initiatives.

Texas A&M President Michael K. Young said Crow, through his development and advancement of Earth Day Texas, epitomizes the goal of public health to provide conditions in which everyone can lead a healthy life, including a safe and clean environment.

“I am thrilled that this award is being presented to someone who has so much in common with our students at Texas A&M,” Young said in congratulating Crow. “Just like you, they are passionate to be a part of the solution and they truly want to make a difference in people’s lives. Through experiential learning experiences such as those at Earth Day Texas, as well as opportunities provided to students at Texas A&M, we can continue to educate citizens on sustainability and conservation of our environment.

The Public Health Hero Award was formally presented to Crow by Dr. Jay Maddock, dean of the Texas A&M School of Public Health.

“Mr. Crow, you’ve made huge strides in bringing attention to the importance of protecting and improving our planet here in Texas and around the world,” Dr. Maddock said.

“I’m a firm believer that public health in Texas needs Texas-style solutions,” he stated.

In conjunction with the presentation of the award, the Texas A&M School of Public Health produced a video focusing on Crow’s life and accomplishments and featuring interviews with several prominent business leaders who know him well. Crow, president of the Crow Family Foundation, served for many years in various capacities in the Trammell Crow Company, which was founded by his father, and was responsible for the development of numerous landmark facilities, including the Anatole Hotel and INFOMART in Dallas and the Dallas/Fort Worth Teleport. A graduate of Yale University, he served as chief executive officer (CEO) of Trammell Crow International from 1986 until 1993.

In addition to his key roles in major real estate developments, Crow has been actively involved in numerous environmental and civic endeavors. He is a founder of Texas Business for Clean Air, an organization of prominent business leaders throughout Texas who are committed to matters that affect air quality in the state.

Other past and ongoing involvements by Crow include Republicans for Environmental Protection, Dallas County Community District Foundation, Paul Quinn College, Museum of African-American Life and Culture, Dallas Children’s Theater, Trinity River Association, The Friends of the Katy Trail, Asia Society, Population Connection, Deep Ellum Film Festival, McKinney Avenue Contemporary and Mayor’s Recycling Task Force—Dallas. Also, he is a member of the board of directors of the Crow Collection of Asian Art and is actively involved in Thanksgiving Square, a multi-denominational center in Dallas for “promotion and gratitude and religious tolerance.”
