Kyle Kelly Elected Texas A&M Student Body President For 2014-15

Kyle Kelly, an industrial distribution major from Boerne, has been elected student body president for Texas A&M University. Kelly will officially take office in April for a one-year term in leading the university’s 58,000-member student body — one of the largest in the nation.

Kelly is a member of the Corps of Cadets, serves as the chaplain for his squadron and is a member of the Ross Volunteer Company, the elite corps unit that serves as the honor guard for the governor of the state. He also serves as the worship chair for the Brotherhood of Christian Aggies (BCA), has been a “Maroon Coat” host for the Texas A&M Foundation, the major fund-raising organization that serves on behalf of the university. Additionally, he has been active in the Student Government Association (SGA) and has served as a host for Muster, the university’s annual solemn event to remember Aggies who have died during the past year.

Kelly said he was filled with emotion as he heard his name announced as the new student body president.

“It’s an out-of- body experience,” Kelly said. “I’m so thankful, probably more than anything, for the team behind me.”

He added that he looks forward to working alongside the student senate to bring changes to the culture of SGA.

Roger Kelly, Class of 1985 and Kyle Kelly’s father, said he is proud of his son’s achievements.

“We’re all proud Aggies, and I couldn’t be more thrilled,” said the senior Kelly. “He’s a courageous kid, hard-working and he’s one of the most honest people you will ever meet. I’m just really proud of him.”
