Texas A&M University officials announce that Koldus Plaza will open Thursday (Sept. 6). The plaza is located between the Koldus Building and Rudder Tower and includes Joe Routt Blvd.

Transportation Services officials say the project enhances the beauty and accessibility of the area between Rudder Tower and the Koldus Building by adding two mid-block crossings with a single level surface from door-to-door of the buildings.

They add that this improves two existing cross-walks to meet accessibility standards. Planter boxes with seating ledges have also been installed to enhance gathering space under the shade of the trees while limiting pedestrian crossings at locations other than cross-walks.

Joe Routt Blvd. will be designated one-way between Houston and Throckmorton Streets beginning Thursday when the plaza is officially opened. The passenger drop-off area in Rudder Circle will be accessed via Houston Street to Joe Routt and then out via Throckmorton.

This area will be closed to through traffic on game days, officials note.

Public vehicles will be allowed to travel east on Joe Routt from Wellborn Road to the Koldus Plaza area after 6 p.m. on weekdays and throughout the weekends, other than football game weekends.

A map of the area is found here.
