Organizational Changes Within The Division Of Administration

The following message is sent on behalf of Vice President for Administration Rodney P. McClendon.

The following message is sent on behalf of Vice President for Administration Rodney P. McClendon.

I am announcing the resignation of Ms. Lallah Howard, Executive Associate Vice President for Operations, effective May 3, 2011. As many of you know, Ms. Howard has served Texas A&M University in many capacities throughout her career, including an appointment at our Qatar campus. Please join me in thanking Ms. Howard for her many contributions to Texas A&M and wishing her all the best in her future endeavors. In the interim, Ms. Howard will work on special projects for the Division.

Recognizing budgetary uncertainties, I have conducted an internal analysis of the job responsibilities and overall organizational structure of the Division of Administration, with an eye toward further enhancing services to the campus community and maximizing efficiencies. Based on that analysis, I am instituting several organizational changes within the Division of Administration, effective immediately:

  • The vacated position of Executive Associate Vice President for Operations will be restructured as Senior Associate Vice President for Facilities, with management oversight for Facilities Services, Utilities and Energy Management and Facilities Coordination. I am pleased to announce Mr. James Massey has agreed to serve in this role on an interim basis until a comprehensive search is launched and the position is filled permanently. Mr. Massey has held increasingly responsible positions during his 30-year career at Texas A&M, most recently serving as Director of Facilities Coordination, a position he has held since 1998. His outstanding leadership skills, ability to successfully handle complex issues as they relate to facilities planning and coordination, and his positive reputation on campus and among his professional peers throughout the state make him an ideal selection for this important role. Mr. Massey will report directly to me.

  • Mr. David Morrison will now serve as Interim Director of Facilities Coordination. Mr. Morrison has served as Manager of Facilities Information since joining the university in 2001. Prior to coming to Texas A&M, he served for almost 20 years with the Texas Youth Commission.

  • Other units currently reporting to the Executive Associate Vice President for Operations — University Dining, Transportation Services, the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center, Aviation Services and the Assistant Vice President within the current Executive Associate Vice President for Operations office — will report directly to me.

This new organizational structure will allow the Facilities leadership team to focus fully on deferred and preventive maintenance issues, as well as other services related to the campus built environment. Simultaneously, these changes will optimize the ability of each unit in the Division of Administration to deliver quality services in a timely and fiscally responsible manner. We will continue to assess the operational effectiveness and financial efficiency of units within the Division and make adjustments as appropriate.

Thank you for your continued support of the Division of Administration.

Dr. Rodney P. McClendon

Vice President for Administration
