Neiman Marcus CEO Karen Katz To Receive McLane Award At Texas A&M

Karen Katz, CEO of Neiman Marcus, will receive the 2010 McLane Leadership in Business Award Nov. 3 in recognition of her extraordinary achievements in business, distinguished by inspired leadership and a commitment to excellence.

The award will be presented at a 6 p.m. ceremony in the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center at the George Bush Presidential Library Center at Texas A&M University.

The event is sponsored by the Bush School’s Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics and Public Policy at Texas A&M and the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce.

Special guests for the event are Anita Perry, First Lady of Texas, and the Honorable Mica Mosbacher, Honorary Consul of Iceland. Mrs. Mosbacher is the widow of the late Robert A. Mosbacher, Sr., 28th Secretary of Commerce of the United States and the namesake of the Mosbacher Institute. The program will also include a discussion on leadership with Katz and Dale Thompson, founder and CEO, Leadership Worth Following, LLC.

The annual McLane Award for Excellence in Leadership recognizes a prominent individual in the field of business for outstanding contributions in the area of business, public service or community service at the national level. The purpose of the award is to highlight the different roles that business plays in maintaining the economic, political and social vitality of our nation. The aim also is to educate youth and the general public about corporate citizenship and to instill in them a dedication to public service.

Karen Katz is president and chief executive officer of The Neiman Marcus Group, Inc., recognized as the premier retailer of luxury and fashion merchandise in the United States. Founded in 1907 in Dallas, the company has always been known for its commitment to merchandising excellence and customer service.

Katz joined NMG in 1985 as a merchandise manager of Neiman Marcus, Town & Country in Houston. In her 25-year career she has held a number of management and leadership positions within the company. As President and CEO, Katz oversees the strategic direction, operations and expansion of The Neiman Marcus Group, a multi-channel retailer known primarily for its specialty retail stores, including 41 Neiman Marcus stores, Bergdorf-Goodman in New York, the Last Call Off-Price division and CUSP; and Neiman Marcus Direct. NMG employs over 12,000 associates in stores, divisions and facilities nationwide.

Katz was educated at the University of Texas and received an MBA from the University of Houston. She has attended executive education programs, with special emphasis in customer service, at Harvard University, Graduate School of Business.

This is a ticketed event. Free tickets are available at the Bryan-College Station Convention & Visitors Bureau, KBTX-TV, WTAW, The Bryan/College Station Eagle, the Texas A&M University MSC Box Office and the Museum at the George Bush Presidential Library. Attendees are asked not to bring backpacks, bags, cameras or other personal belongings.
