Jacob Robinson, a senior leadership studies major from Waco, has been elected Texas A&M University’s student body president. Robinson, who also minors in communication and sports, will lead the nearly 50,000 students at the nation’s seventh-largest university in 2010-2011.

Robinson is not new to the role of student leader at Texas A&M, having served as executive vice president under current student body president Kolin Loveless.

“I have been blessed to have the opportunity to serve this past year under Kolin Loveless (who is a senior engineering major from Lubbock). This experience has given me the opportunity to learn what the student body president does and how to effectively lead this organization and ultimately, the student body,” Robinson said.

He adds that he has had a number of leadership roles and served as chair of the Bonfire Remembrance Committee, as well as various leadership roles in the Student Government Association and in the Aggie Men’s Club.

Robinson says he plans to begin addressing immediately the issues he believes are important to the students at Texas A&M.

“I imagine that tuition increases will be an important issue during my tenure in office, and I will do everything I can to keep it as low as possible. Having a new university president and creating and maintaining a working relationship with him will be a critical step in ensuring that student’s voices can always be heard,” he said, referring to the president of the university, R. Bowen Loftin, who took office Feb. 12.
