New Transfer Policy Benefits Other A&M System Schools

Students from eight universities within The Texas A&M University System will now have the opportunity for seamless admission by transfer into certain Texas A&M University programs as part of a formal agreement for a five-year pilot project.

Texas A&M Interim President R. Bowen Loftin signed the transfer agreement on Thursday, Jan. 21 with the respective A&M System presidents from Prairie View A&M University, Tarleton State University, Texas A&M International University, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, West Texas A&M University and Texas A&M University-Texarkana.

To qualify under provisions of the Program for System Admission, students admitted to this program must have completed at least 24 credits in transferrable classes at their respective A&M System universities that satisfy their chosen Texas A&M degree programs and have a minimum 3.0 grade point average overall in the courses listed in the chosen Texas A&M degree program, among other stipulations.

“This agreement serves to define and facilitate the automatic transfer of A&M System students into one of several programs at Texas A&M University,” said Loftin. “It will ensure seamless transition into selected Texas A&M University programs, according to the provisions and conditions in the document, and we are delighted to be able to cooperate and share resources with the other A&M System universities in this manner. Even more importantly, we are most pleased to be in a position to assist students who are looking for specific areas of study that we offer here at Texas A&M.”

Texas A&M System Chancellor Michael D. McKinney applauded the agreement, citing it as an “excellent example of cooperation and collaboration between our universities. I thank and congratulate the leadership at Texas A&M and our A&M System universities for taking the initiative to make this proposal a reality for the benefit of numerous current and future students.”

The agreement includes a provision for the five-year pilot program to be extended for another period not to exceed five years, subject to approval by officials at participating universities.
