Eighteen Teachers Named To Dean’s Roundtable

The annual Dean’s Roundtable hosted by the college recognizes educators who are role models to their students and peers.

Eighteen educators from across Texas have received crystal apple awards for their lifetime commitment to education from the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M.

The annual Dean’s Roundtable hosted by the college each spring recognizes educators who are role models to their students and peers, mentors for new education professionals, servant leaders in their communities and examples of what the college hopes its Aggie graduates will become. Over the past 17 years, the Dean’s Roundtable has honored more than 250 educators.

This year’s recipients from Bryan and College Station include Texas A&M faculty members Danny Ballard and Ben Welch. Local teachers honored include Kay Cannon College Hills Elementary School, David Childers of Cypress Grove Intermediate School and Bart Taylor of A&M Consolidated High School.

Houston-area recipients include Sam Bass of Faith Lutheran School in Sugar Land, Mark McNeil of the University of St. Thomas and Holy Rosary Convent in Missouri City and chair of the Theology Department at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, Lynn Millikan St. Thomas’ Episcopal School, and Audrey Nelson of Lower School at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart.

Other recipients include John Arevalo of Harlandale High School in San Antonio, Paula Berger of Yoakum High School, Kathy Day of Navasota High School, Susan Klinkovsky of Damon and Needville Independent School Districts, Elo Nohavitza of the Arlington, Pasadena and Hurst Euless Bedford districts near Dallas, Grant Simpson of Hidden Lakes Elementary in Keller, Nancy Jo Smith of Sunset Valley Elementary School, Bellville, Bibs Toney of Bettye Haun Elementary School in Plano and Norma Torres-Martinez director of mathematics at the Texas Education Agency in Austin.
