The Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics, and Public Policy at the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University will hold a Conversation in Public Policy with Robert Kaplan, the president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.  Kaplan will discuss economic conditions and the role of monetary policy.

The event will be held at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center on Monday, March 27. It will begin with a reception at 5 p.m., followed by the lecture at 5:30 p.m.

Robert Steven Kaplan represents the Eleventh Federal Reserve District and currently serves as a voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee in the formulation of U.S. monetary policy.

“The Bush School and the Mosbacher Institute are pleased to welcome Mr. Kaplan to our campus,” said Lori Taylor, director of the Mosbacher Institute. “Many of the current administration’s plans and policies—tax cuts, spending increases, and renegotiated trade agreements—could create inflationary pressures, and it will be important to understand the range of possible monetary policy responses. President Kaplan’s discourse will surely prove to be enlightening to our students, faculty, and community members.”

Prior to serving at the Dallas Federal Reserve, Kaplan served as the Martin Marshall Professor of Management Practice and senior associate dean at the Harvard Business School and was vice chairman of the Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. Kaplan also serves as co-chairman of Project ALS and co-chairman of the Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation, a global venture philanthropy firm that invests in developing nonprofit enterprises dedicated to addressing social issues. He is also a board member of the Harvard Medical School.

The Conversations in Public Policy lecture series brings a prominent policymaker and a subject-matter expert together on stage for an informative, public discussion of their common interests. The Mosbacher Institute serves to produce innovative policy research and top-quality education and training and is named for Robert Mosbacher Sr., who served as secretary of commerce under President George H. W. Bush from 1989 to 1992.

The event is open to the public, but registration is required. To register, visit http://bush.tamu.edu/kaplan/.
