UPD Chief J. Michael Ragan Honored For Crime Prevention

Texas A&M Chief of Police J. Michael Ragan has been honored by the Texas Crime Prevention Association for his outstanding contributions to the field of crime prevention in 2015. He was formally recognized at the association’s 41st annual conference in Conroe.

Ragan was selected as the Outstanding Crime Prevention Manager – Specialized Agency for the State of Texas. He was cited for his continued support of community crime prevention initiatives and his “vibrant approach in the use of social media as a crime prevention tool.” He was the creator of the University Police Department’s (UPD) social media sites, Facebook and Twitter, which have become some of the top-followed university police social media sites in the country. The department’s Twitter account has more than 20,000 followers.

Chief Ragan currently serves as the first vice president of the Texas Association of College and University Police Administrators and is a regional director for the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.

He has been a member of UPD for more than 35 years and has served as its chief since 2013.
