aggie license plateTexas Aggies are known for their loyalty and school pride, and alumni and fans of the school are driving the point home in a literal way: Texas A&M University leads all other collegiate and professional organizations in the state in the sale of specialized license plates.

According to MyPlates, the company contracted by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles to design, market and sell specialty plates, not only did Texas A&M lead all other schools in the sales of specialty plates in 2015, but it has led in collegiate license plate sales ever since the plates were offered by MyPlates in 2009.

The University of Texas and Texas Tech University placed second and third in the most recent rankings, respectively. The top three out-of-state sales belong to Iowa State, LSU and Alabama, figures show.

Texas A&M is also the only collegiate or professional organization to finish in the top 10 or top 20 of the most recent MyPlate rankings.

A specialty plate refers to any official license plate other than the state’s general issue plate. Specialty plates can be “personalized” plates, but are not required to be.

“These sales show once again that Aggies have a love for their school that is unmatched anywhere,” says Shane Hinckley, interim vice president for marketing and communications at Texas A&M.

“And it’s important to note that hundreds of students and several student organizations receive much-needed financial aid from the sale of these specialty plates.”

Texas A&M administrators say that proceeds from the license plate program help maintain the Bonfire Memorial as well as provide funding for Corps of Cadets, athletic, and financial assistance scholarships.
