Texas A&M To Award Record Number Of Degrees At December Commencement

Texas A&M University will award a record 5,437 degrees during graduation ceremonies this December. The totals include graduates from the main campus in College Station and the Health Science Center, the School of Law in Fort Worth, branch campuses in Galveston and Doha, Qatar and the first two graduates from degree programs offered by the Texas A&M Higher Education Center at McAllen.

The totals surpass the 2018 number of 5,237, which was also a record at the time.

Ceremonies will be held in Reed Arena on Friday, Dec. 13 at 9 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 9 a.m.

Texas A&M University at Galveston will award 167 degrees on Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Galveston Island Convention Center.

In addition, more than 50 Texas A&M cadets are scheduled to receive their commissions as new officers in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The Higher Education Center at McAllen is the newest approved site for students to pursue degrees from Texas A&M University. Approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Higher Education Center hosts students studying in five degree programs developed in coordination with local industry and high need fields of Texas. The two students graduating this semester entered on dual credit programs with their associate degrees in hand, and are candidates for the Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health.

Expected degrees to be awarded include those from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (709); the College of Architecture (308); Mays Business School (587); the College of Dentistry (1); the College of Education & Human Development (745); the College of Engineering (1,401); and the College of Geosciences (134).

Also, the Bush School of Government & Public Service (36); the School of Law (30); the College of Liberal Arts (817); the College of Medicine (5); the College of Nursing (31); the Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy (1); the School of Public Health (61); the College of Science (205) and the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (194).

Commencement is a celebration of each student’s accomplishments and every effort is made to ensure safety, security and decorum of a public event befitting their success. Guests are encouraged to refrain from disruptive behaviors which may take away from the special moment. Due to the large anticipated participation, facility occupancy will be monitored closely for safety.
