With the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the emergence of the United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA), and an increasing reliance on tariffs, trade issues have been regularly recurring topics in recent news.

The North American Trade Symposium Wednesday, Feb. 27 at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center  at Texas A&M University will provide an opportunity to explore the many implications of trade policy in depth.

Jaime Serra Puche, who led Mexico’s NAFTA negotiation implementation efforts as Mexico’s Secretary of Trade and Industry, will deliver a brief lecture to begin the symposium before joining a panel of experts from the United States, Canada, and Mexico moderated by Mosbacher Institute Director Raymond Robertson.

Additional panelists include:

  • Drayton McLane Jr., Chairman of the McLane Group
  • Douglas George, Acting Consul General, Consulate General of Canada
  • Jeffrey Jones, former Senator and Undersecretary of Agribusiness Development in Mexico
  • Matthew Rooney, Managing Director of the Bush Institute-SMU Economic Growth Initiative.

The event is organized by the Texas A&M University Bush School of Government & Public Policy’s Mosbacher Institute for Trade Economics and Public Policy and cohosted by the Mays Business School Center for International Business Studies.

A reception will begin at 5 p.m. with the Symposium starting at 5:30 p.m. The lecture is open to the public, but reservations are strongly recommended by Monday, Feb. 25.
