William Roberts Clark, the Charles Puryear Professor of Liberal Arts and head of the Department of Political Science in the College of Liberal Arts, has received the Brian Barry Prize in Political Science from the British Academy.

“I am incredibly proud to receive the Brian Barry Award from the British Academy,” Clark said. “Brian Barry was a giant in our field who effectively combined political and analytical philosophy, and it is an honor to be associated with his memory.”

The award was established to honor of Brian Barry FBA, a founding editor of the British Journal of Political Science. The British Academy, Cambridge University Press, and the British Journal of Political Science present the honor annually for excellence in political science, as presented in an unpublished essay.

“We are fortunate to have department heads like Dr. Clark who take this faculty role seriously and are leading the way in their fields,” said Liberal Arts Dean Pamela R. Matthews. “The Department of Political Science is ranked as one of the top 25 political science departments in the country, and Bill Clark’s vision, leadership, and innovation continue to move the department forward. This award will only bring more distinction to him, to our college, and to our university.”
