12th man statueA total of 51 Texas A&M student-athletes have earned degrees this semester as Commencement exercises are set to take place at Reed Arena beginning Thursday (May 12) and continuing through Saturday (May 14).

“I am extremely proud of these young people for earning a degree from our outstanding university while also competing at the highest levels in a sport they love,” Director of Athletics Scott Woodward said. “We have All-Americans, SEC and national champions, an Olympic gold medal winner and some of the very best to compete in their respective sports. These student-athletes have put in a lot of time, effort and dedication to reach this goal.”

“Many of these student-athletes have not only excelled on the playing fields and in the classrooms, but also have made a positive impact in our community,” Woodward explained. “They are excellent role models and outstanding representatives of Texas A&M and Aggies everywhere.”

Several student-athletes are still competing in conference play and various championships and will be unavailable to participate in Commencement ceremonies.

The Aggie baseball team is currently ranked No. 2 in the latest polls and will travel to Columbia, S.C., this weekend for a key three-game SEC series.

The softball team is ranked in the Top 25 and will compete at the SEC Tournament in Starkville, Miss.

The men’s and women’s tennis teams are competing in the NCAA Championships, with the Aggie men hosting at the Mitchell Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday, while the women travel to Stanford this weekend. Both squads are ranked in the country’s Top 20.
