Texas A&M Recognized As A Phi Kappa Phi Chapter Of Excellence

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi—the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines—recently recognized the Texas A&M University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi as a Chapter of Excellence, the highest commendation a chapter can receive from the organization. The award is given to chapters that excel in recognizing and promoting academic excellence in all fields of higher education and engaging the community of scholars in service to others.

The Chapter of Excellence distinction is a part of the Society’s Chapter Recognition program, which acknowledged 44 chapters with recognition this year including 29 as a Chapter of Excellence.

“The Chapter Recognition program offers Phi Kappa Phi the opportunity to say a special thank you to chapters who go above and beyond in promoting academic excellence on their campuses,” said Society Executive Director Dr. Mary Todd.

“On behalf of the Texas A&M University Phi Kappa Phi chapter, and board members, I would like to say, as President, how honored we are for this recognition of achievement and excellence. If I may add, we are also very proud as this is not the first time our chapter has been recognized, said chapter president Gül A. Russell, Ph. D. This Award will further enhance the visibility of Phi Kappa Phi on the campus, as well as inspire prospective members. Phi Kappa Phi provides a unique opportunity for like-minded faculty to meet and work with exceptional students, who will carry the wonder of learning into the future to motivate others. By receiving the Chapter of Excellence distinction, the chapter is recognized as a thriving organization that meets regularly, holds annual initiations and applies frequently for Phi Kappa Phi’s select award and grant programs.

Chapters achieving the Chapter of Excellence distinction receive:

• a commendation letter from the Society sent to chapter officers and campus administration
• special recognition on the Society’s website, publications and at the biennial convention
• specially designed logo for use in chapter communications
• recognition advertisements in local media and educational journals
• $500 award
