Texas A&M University takes another step in being a leader by providing fast and easy access to campus services through TAMUmobile apps, with its latest development being an app for Android smart phones.

Finding out where to eat, what’s happening and how to get around are common questions on every college campus. The answers to these questions can now be found quickly and easily on the new Android application developed by the Division of Marketing & Communications at Texas A&M.

Android users can quickly get mobile access to the university calendar, campus bus schedules, the latest campus news and updates, campus directory, the university library, athletics and more. The Android version of TAMUmobile follows the release of the iPhone version in 2009 and Blackberry app in 2010. TAMUmobile is now available as a free download in the Android Market at http://tx.ag/droid.

“We currently have more than 80,000 active users of our iPhone and Blackberry apps. During the beta test of our Android app, we had more than 2,400 active users and expect this to grow,” says Diane C. McDonald, director of social media in the Marketing & Communications Division.

Teri, an early user of TAMUmobile app for Android posted this review of TAMUmobile in Android Market: “Great app! I’m a new student this semester and this helped me find my classes and get familiar with the bus system.”

“The new Android app is the next step in the progression toward providing information in the fastest and most convenient way,” says Jason Cook, vice president of the Division of Marketing & Communications. “The goal is always to provide information in a way that fits today’s mobile lifestyle. We expect Texas A&M’s presence in the mobile arena to continue to expand as communications and technology advance and evolve.”
