Texas A&M University’s Corps of Cadets will honor those who have served the nation with a Monday ceremony scheduled at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the date that marks the end of World War I. The Corps’ Veterans Day ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. with the placement of ceremonial wreaths at the Memorial Student Center and on the Corps Memorial Plaza. The Corps Memorial Plaza is home to Texas A&M’s Spanish-American War, World War I and post-World War II memorials.

“Taking time to recognize the men and women who have worn the cloth of our nation, our veterans, is something that our organization does not take lightly. As Aggies and as stewards of this great university’s values, it is our duty to honor those who have dedicated themselves to serving our nation,” said Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Chip Utterback, commandant of the Corps of Cadets.

In addition to the placement of wreaths, members of the Ross Volunteer Company will perform a rifle salute and the Corps bugler will perform taps at the Corps Memorial Plaza.

“I’m a proud veteran myself, and there are millions of us from all walks of life and from every corner of this nation,” Utterback said. “We all have one thing in common, we’ve sworn allegiance to the Constitution and, uniquely,  we did so of our own free will. That’s what makes the American veteran different from so many other militaries across the world.”
