Urgent: Classes, Work Canceled Friday, June 18 In Observance Of New National Holiday

New Student Conferences, summer camps will be held.

President Joe Biden today signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act establishing June 19 as a national holiday. Federal agencies will be closed and federal employees will observe the holiday on June 18.

In recognition of the historic nature of this national holiday, The Texas A&M University System has authorized Texas A&M University to observe the holiday. Texas A&M University will be closed Friday, June 18. All classes are canceled. Day two of New Student Conferences and summer camps will be held as scheduled. Individuals scheduled to provide services for these activities should report to campus.

Juneteenth honors the arrival of the news of the Emancipation Proclamation to residents in Texas, two years after the document was signed.
