Texas A&M To Celebrate May Graduates

The university is awarding a record 11,406 degrees.

Texas A&M University is awarding 11,406 degrees this month, topping last May’s total of 10,796 degrees awarded. The university will celebrate through 34 commencement ceremonies starting on May 6 through May 29. Most of the ceremonies will be held at Reed Arena, but there will also be ceremonies at the Forth Worth Convention Center, the Aggie Special Event Center, Galveston Island Convention Center, Curtis Culwell Center, Rudder Auditorium and one virtual ceremony.

The doors to Reed Arena will be opened for guests at least one hour before the start of each ceremony.

Interim President John L. Junkins praised the graduates for achieving this milestone.

“In one of the most challenging academic years in recent memory, we’re very proud that our graduates’ hard work and persistence have paid off,” Junkins said. “For all of the Aggies who are making the transition from student to former student, we salute your accomplishments and celebrate your success. And we look forward to applauding your many achievements in the years ahead.”

Mark H. Weichold ’78, interim provost and executive vice president, added, “We’re excited to return to the traditional Aggie commencement ceremonies students and their families have enjoyed for generations. The extraordinary number of graduates serves as a testament to the grit and determination of our students. You make us proud, and will continue to do so as former students of Texas A&M.”

Thursday, May 6

Texas A&M University-Qatar will hold a virtual graduation recognition ceremony to recognize Summer 2020, Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 graduates at 9 p.m. View the event at 2021.tamu.qa.

Friday, May 7

The School of Law will recognize its professional degrees and graduates at 1 p.m. The ceremony will be held at Fort Worth Convention Center Arena.

Saturday, May 8

The doctoral commencement and hooding ceremony will recognize its graduate and professional school graduates at 9 a.m.

Wednesday, May 12

There will be four ceremonies held at Reed Arena. The following graduates will be recognized at 9 a.m.: masters and undergraduates in veterinary medicine and biomedical sciences.

At 12:30 p.m., professional degrees in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences will be recognized.

Then at 4 p.m., the following graduates will be recognized: masters and undergraduates from the Department of Chemical Engineering, and masters and undergraduates from the Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution (major: industrial distribution).

At 7:30 p.m., the following graduates will be recognized: masters and undergraduates from the Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution (majors: technical management; engineering technology; electronic systems engineering technology, manufacturing and mechanical engineering technology, multidisciplinary engineering technology) and masters and undergraduates from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Thursday, May 13

There will be four ceremonies held at Reed Arena. Masters and undergraduates in engineering will be recognized at 9 a.m. from the following departments: engineering; computer science and engineering; materials science and engineering; multidisciplinary engineering; and ocean engineering.

Next, masters and undergraduates in engineering will be recognized at 12:30 p.m. from the following departments: aerospace engineering and electrical and computer engineering.

Then, masters and undergraduates in engineering will be recognized at 4 p.m. from the following departments: Biological and agricultural engineering; mechanical engineering; and nuclear engineering.

At 7:30 p.m., masters and undergraduates in engineering from the following departments will be recognized: biomedical engineering; civil and environmental engineering and petroleum engineering.

Friday, May 14

There will be four ceremonies held at Reed Arena and one held at the Aggie Special Event Center. Masters and undergraduates in liberal arts will be recognized at 9 a.m. from the following departments: Hispanic studies, and psychological and brain sciences.

Next, masters and undergraduates in liberal arts will be recognized at 12:30 p.m. from the following departments: communication and history.

Then, masters and undergraduates in liberal arts will be recognized at 4 p.m. from the following departments: university studies, women’s and gender studies; anthropology; economics; international studies; performance studies; and philosophy and humanities.

Texas A&M University-Galveston will award its doctoral and master’s (including 3+2 programs) degrees at 6 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the Aggie Special Event Center at Texas A&M University at Galveston.

At 7:30 p.m., masters and undergraduates in liberal arts from the following departments will be recognized: English, political science and sociology.

Saturday, May 15

There will be four ceremonies at Reed Arena and one ceremony at Galveston Island Convention Center. Masters and undergraduates in agriculture and life sciences will be recognized at 9 a.m. from the following departments: agricultural economics and agricultural leadership, education and communication.

Texas A&M University-Galveston will recognize its undergraduate degrees at Galveston Island Convention Center at 9 a.m.

Next, masters and undergraduates in agriculture and life sciences will be recognized at 12:30 p.m. from the following departments: animal science; biochemistry and biophysics; biological and agricultural engineering; ecology and conservation biology; entomology; food science and technology; and horticultural sciences.

Then, masters and undergraduates in agriculture and life sciences will be recognized at 4 p.m. from the following departments: nutrition; plant pathology and microbiology; poultry science; rangeland, wildlife and fisheries management; recreation, park and tourism sciences; and soil and crop sciences.

At 7:30 p.m., all masters and undergraduates in science will be recognized.

Wednesday, May 19

There will be four ceremonies held at Reed Arena. Masters and undergraduates in geosciences will be recognized at 9 a.m.

Next, masters and undergraduates from the following departments will be recognized at 12:30 p.m.: educational administration and human resource development and health and kinesiology (majors: health education, community health, and health.

Then, at 4 p.m. masters and undergraduates from the Department of Health and Kinesiology will be recognized from the following majors:  athletic training, kinesiology, sport management and university studies.

At 7:30 p.m., masters and undergraduates in education and human development will be recognized from the following departments: educational psychology and teaching, learning and culture.

Thursday, May 20

There will be four ceremonies at Reed Arena. Masters and undergraduates in Mays Business School will be recognized at 9 a.m. from the following departments: analytics; business; business administration; business honors; and university studies.

Next, masters and undergraduates in Mays Business School in the finance department will be recognized at 12:30 p.m.

Then, at 4 p.m. masters and undergraduates in Mays Business School will be recognized from the following departments: accounting; information and operations management.

At 7:30 p.m., masters and undergraduates in Mays Business School will be recognized from the following departments: management and marketing.

Friday, May 21

There will be three ceremonies at Reed Arena and one at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas. At 9 a.m., masters and undergraduates in architecture from the following departments will be recognized: university studies; architecture; landscape architecture and urban planning.

At 11 a.m., professional degrees, graduates and undergraduates in the College of Dentistry will be recognized at the Curtis Culwell Center.

Then, at 12:30 p.m. masters in the Bush School of Government and Public Service will be recognized. Masters and undergraduates in architecture from the following departments will also be recognized: construction science and visualization.

At 4 p.m., professional degrees and graduates in the College of Medicine will be recognized.

Saturday, May 29

Professional degrees in the Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy will be recognized at 2 p.m. at Rudder Auditorium.

Face coverings are required for all graduates, guests and university staff while inside the arena and they must be worn throughout the duration of the entire ceremony. Reed Arena will be cleaned in between ceremonies. Seating areas will be clearly marked to maintain safe physical distancing.

Each graduate will have their name called and walk the stage. However, diplomas will be mailed. Diploma tubes will be provided at the ceremonies for picture opportunities. After graduates cross the stage, they will be shown where to exit. Family members and friends should exit at that time, as well.

School officials note that commencement is a celebration of each student’s accomplishments, and every effort is made to ensure safety, security and decorum of a public event befitting their success. Guests should refrain from disruptive behaviors, which may negatively impact this special moment for students and their families. Clear bags are also required at all commencement ceremonies at Reed Arena.
