Representatives from the government of Hungary, family members of former President George H.W. Bush, and other dignitaries were treated to a video performance of the Aggie War Hymn by the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band at a recent ceremony to dedicate a statue of the 41st president in Budapest’s Liberty Square.

Bush was the first sitting U.S. president to visit Budapest and Hungarian officials said he is “rightly recognized for the indelible contributions he made over a long career in public service, including as president and Vice President, to ending the Cold War in Central and Eastern Europe and supporting the development of democratic institutions.”

Col. Jay Brewer ’81, senior associate director of the Texas Aggie Band, said it was an opportunity for the band to be a part of history.

In addition to the Aggie War Hymn, the video featured the band’s performance of The Noble Men of Kyle.
