Pitch Perfect: Texas A&M A Cappella Group Makes It To Collegiate National Championship

Today is the last day to vote for Texas A&M University’s student a cappella group, Swaram, in the UpStagedAID collegiate a cappella championship.

The Aggie team is competing against groups from all over the nation in the first ever virtual college competition of its kind.

Fans are invited to watch videos of the groups and vote for their favorites.

The winning team will receive nearly $15,000 worth of prizes as well as donations for a social justice charity of its choice. Swaram has chosen Equal Justice Initiative.

Swaram is a coed South Asian a cappella group that was founded in 2007 and fuses both Indian and Western musical styles only using voice.

Sahana Prabhu, a junior biomedical sciences major from Plano, Texas, and Swaram’s musical director, said the group is humbled and excited to have been able to make it this far into this competition. She said the group has an enormous amount of Aggie spirit and pride, and she hopes her fellow Ags get online today to vote for Swaram.

“All of our individual experiences are unique in Aggieland, but we all share the honor of being an Aggie,” Prabhu said. “Being an Aggie comes with the responsibility of upholding our six core values and supporting each other through our tight knit bond. It would truly be amazing to gain enough votes to represent our wonderful Texas A&M University on a national scale and show everyone what we stand for.”

Currently Swaram is the #3 seed vs. Brigham Young University’s “Vocal Point” in the bracket-style competition.
