How do I know if I am eligible to vote?

To vote in Texas, you must be:

• A United States citizen and a resident of the county in which you apply for registration
• At least 18 on Election Day
• Not convicted of a felony, unless you’ve finished a jail or prison sentence, including probation or parole
• Not declared mentally incapacitated by a court of law

If your permanent residence is in Texas, make sure you’re registered by the Oct. 5 deadline. To see if you’re registered, visit the Texas Secretary of State website.

If you are from out of state, check with your state’s election officials for registration and ballot-by-mail information.

How do I register?

There are a few ways to register to vote in Texas – you just need to complete a voter registration application and return it to the county election office at least 30 days before the election day. You can:

• Complete an application using the Texas Secretary of State’s Online Voter Registration. Once you fill out the required information, simply print, sign and mail it directly to the county election office.
• Request a printed application, which the Secretary of State’s Office will mail to the address provided.
• Contact or visit your local voter registrar to complete an application in person. The Brazos County Elections Administration Office is located at 300 E. William J. Bryan Pkwy Suite 100 in Bryan.

Sept. 22 is National Voter Registration Day. All Texas A&M University students, faculty and staff are invited to a voter registration drive hosted by the Texas A&M Center for Student-Athlete Services and Aggies Vote. Visit the Davis Diamond Softball Complex from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 22 to register, update your address or ask questions about the voting process. Event parking will be provided in Lot 100M.

How can I vote by mail in Texas?

To be eligible to vote by mail, you must be 65 years or older, have a disability or an illness, be confined in jail, or out of the county in which you’re registered on Election Day and during the entire early voting period.

You’ll need to deliver a completed application for ballot by mail to your county elections office. They can be dropped off in person before the start of early voting on Oct. 13, or local election officials must receive mailed applications by Oct. 23.

You can print out an application, request one from the Secretary of State’s office or contact your local elections office.

I’m registered to vote in Brazos County. Where can I vote?

You can vote early Oct. 13-30 at one of five locations, which include the Memorial Student Center on campus.

On Election Day, Nov. 3, you can cast your ballot at any of the voting centers in Brazos County.

Is there anything I should know before I head to my polling place?

When you arrive at a polling location, you will be asked to present identification. Valid forms of ID include:

• Texas driver license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
• Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
• Texas personal identification card issued by DPS
• Texas license to carry a handgun issued by DPS
• United States military identification card containing the person’s photograph
• United States citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph
• United States passport
