Spies, Traitors, Saboteurs: Fear and Freedom in America” provides historic perspective on acts of terror that have taken place on American soil. The exhibit will be on display Feb. 19, 2019–May 20, 2019 at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

The exhibit focuses on nine major events in U.S. history from the American Revolution to post-9/11 terrorism when Americans were threatened by enemies within. Visitors will learn about specific events and how the government and public responded while following the evolution of U.S. counterintelligence and homeland security efforts and examining the challenge of securing the nation without compromising the civil liberties upon which it was founded.

The exhibition uncovers the intriguing stories of domestic terrorists, hostile foreign agents, militant radicals and saboteurs who threatened America’s security during the past 200 years. It also explores the difficult question of how we identify the enemy within without compromising the civil liberties of American citizens.

The exhibit was created by the International Spy Museum™, which is located in Washington, D.C., and the traveling exhibit is organized by Evergreen Exhibitions. The stories are told in themed environments that evoke the spirit of the times and include artifacts, replicas, historic photographs and film footage, interactive displays, and video.
