The Aggie Women Network announced this week that Texas A&M University School of Law Professor Huyen Pham will be recognized this month as an Eminent Scholar Award recipient during an Aggie Women awards luncheon.

A ceremony honoring Pham’s career and contributions will be held in the Memorial Student Center Bethancourt Ballroom on Texas A&M’s campus Friday, Oct. 26 at 12 p.m. The award encompasses a wide range of disciplines and honors the outstanding contributions of faculty based on research, scholarship and service.

Registration for the event is open on the Aggie Women website.

Pham, a professor of law for a decade, has taught the past the past five years at the School of Law with a scholarship focus on immigration law. The Vietnam native arrived in the United States as an unaccompanied refugee child and graduated with honors from Harvard University and Harvard Law School.

Her work includes volunteering in a Vietnamese refugee camp as an Echoing Green Fellow, clerking with a federal judge and serving as an assistant attorney general and a corporate lawyer. Pham has been lauded for bringing her wealth of experience and passion for public service, social justice and international development to her teaching and mentoring of students. Known among her students as the “Pham effect,” it has been said that students who never thought they would be interested in criminal law suddenly develop a passion for it after taking Pham’s class.

Established in 2010, the Eminent Scholar Award is a joint project of Aggie Women Network and Texas A&M University. The designation is accompanied by a monetary award of $4,000 and a specially created necklace. With the Dean of Faculties Office serving as the point of contact, the Award has been bestowed upon four distinguished women faculty members between 2012 and 2018.
