The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum 2017 “Movies by the Pond” summer film series begins on Friday, May 19 with a showing of Steven Spielberg’s “An American Tail: Fievel Goes West.”

“An American Tail: Fievel Goes West” tells the story of Fievel, the youngest of the Mousekewitz family, as he heads west to avoid further conflict with some unruly and predatory felines. Full of optimism, the family moves west with hopes of starting a new chapter of their lives. Unfortunately for this family of mice, they fail to elude the cats they hoped to leave behind and must persevere throughout many obstacles along their journey. This family-friendly classic, rated PG, features voice actors including Jimmy Stewart, Dom Deluise, Jon Lovitz and Amy Irving.

The festivities, featuring games, bounce houses, face-painting and much more, begin at 7 p.m. and the movie will start just after sundown.

Moviegoers are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and relax with the whole family by the Presidential Pond. Guests may bring food, but free food, and beverages provided by Pepsi, will also be available on-site. Pets and glass containers are not allowed.

Schedule:

  • May 19 “An American Tail: Fievel Goes West”
  • June 16 “Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey”
  • Aug. 25 “Flicka”
  • Sept. 15 “Babe”

This summer’s movies are being shown in conjunction with the newest exhibit at the Bush Library and Museum, “The Legacy of Ranching: Preserving the Past, Embracing the Future.” Through a partnership with the Department of Animal Sciences at Texas A&M University, this exhibit celebrates the historic ranches of Texas and their ability to adapt through changing natural and business environments. “The Legacy of Ranching” will be on display through Jan. 7, 2018.

While admission to the movies is free, regular admission fees to the museum and exhibit still apply. For more information about the exhibit visit Bush41.org and click on the exhibits tab.
