Bush Presidential Library To Host Kate Andersen Brower For Presidents Day Event on Feb. 21
Kate Andersen Brower, New York Times bestselling author of “The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House” and “First Women: The Grace and Power of America’s Modern First Ladies” will speak about the different aspects of the public and private world of the White House on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum’s orientation theater.
Each of these books explores a different aspect of the public and private world of the White House. In her book “The Residence” she interviewed scores of former maids, butlers, cooks, and ushers who worked at the White House and who see sides of the first family no one else ever glimpses. “The Residence” marks the first time that so many have shared what it’s like to devote their lives to caring for the first family.
In “First Women” Brower used interviews with three former first ladies, along with the children, friends, and social secretaries of the modern first ladies to explore one of the most under-estimated and challenging jobs in the world. From Jackie Kennedy to Michelle Obama she considered the first lady’s intimidating job assignment: to be an inspiring leader with a forward-thinking agenda of her own; to be a savvy politician skilled at navigating the treacherous rapids of Washington; and to be a wife and mother operating under constant scrutiny.

This year, Presidents Day is on Monday, Feb. 20.
