Apollo 13 Astronaut Fred Haise To Speak At Texas A&M Oct. 4

Apollo 13 Astronaut Fred Haise will be at Texas A&M on Oct. 4 to present “Failure is Not an Option,” a first-hand account of his experiences with NASA and America’s Space Program.

Apollo 13 Astronaut Fred Haise will be at Texas A&M University on Oct. 4 to present “Failure is Not an Option,” a first-hand account of his experiences with NASA and America’s Space Program.

Haise will also present scholarships of up to $10,000 each on behalf of the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) to Texas A&M students Mikayla Barry ’17, majoring in biomedical engineering, and Maura Cadigan ’17, majoring in aerospace engineering. Funding for these scholarships is made possible by the ASF, The Wreyford Family Foundation, and Texas A&M.

The event will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. in Rudder Auditorium. The program is open to all and is free, but tickets are required for admission and are available at the MSC Box Office, open Mon.-Fri., 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. or call (979) 845-1234.

An aeronautical engineer and former aviator, fighter pilot, and test pilot, Haise is one of only 24 people to have flown to the moon. He served as the lunar module pilot on the Apollo 13 mission that was aborted before lunar landing. He went on to fly Space Shuttle approach and landing tests in 1977.
