Wimberly, a human resource and development junior from Friendswood, said she’s honored to have won the position — and that her campaign for it was never about her gender.

Claire Wimberly, the new student body president’s twin sister and a management junior, was elected president of the Class of 2017. Kilian Bresnahan won the junior class presidency, and the sophomore class president will be Amy Sharp.

Senior yell leaders elected are Chris Wilder, Spencer Old and James Pace. Junior yell leaders are Ian Moss and Cooper Cox.

Sorio, originally from San Antonio, grew up in Germany. She said her father’s service in the Air Force figured in her decision to focus on schools that boast strong ROTC programs. She is majoring in atmospheric sciences. She is only the second female corps commander. Current Corps Commander Alyssa Michalke is the first.

In addition to Sorio, other cadets selected to step into senior leadership positions in the Corps of Cadets for the 2016-2017 include Deputy Corps Commander Justin Martinez; Chief of Staff Samuel Simmons; 1st Brigade Commander Zachary Butler; 2nd Brigade Commander Ian Greenhalgh; 3rd Brigade Commander Zachary Lanctot; 1st Regiment Commander Stuart Seelman; 2nd Regiment Commander Christopher Akin; 3rd Regiment Commander Austin Collard; 1st Wing Commander Daniel Schultz; 2nd Wing Commander Ricky Hill; 3rd Wing Commander Kenneth Griffing; and Aggie Band Commander Matthew Rollins.
