Texas A&M’s MSC SCONA To Host Nada Bakos Thursday

BakosN_CAA-Speakers_350Nada Bakos, a highly regarded national security expert who was asked to serve on the team tasked with tracking down some of the world’s most wanted terrorists, will speak at a program hosted by Texas A&M University’s Memorial Student Center Student Conference on National Affairs (MSC SCONA) at 6 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 19) in Rudder Theater. During the presentation, titled On the Hunt with Nada Bakos, she will discuss the interaction between the intelligence community and U.S. policy.

Tickets are on sale at the MSC Box Office in Rudder Tower. Student tickets are $5 (with a current Texas A&M ID), while general public tickets are $10.

Bakos has 20 years of in-depth knowledge based in global intelligence. As a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) analyst, she was a key member of the team charged with analyzing the relationship between Iraq, al-Qaeda and the 9/11 attacks.

Subsequently, during the war in Iraq, Bakos was asked to serve as the chief targeting officer of the team tasked with tracking Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. In 2006, Zarqawi was killed in a targeted strike conducted by U.S. military forces.

Bakos was recently featured in the Emmy Award-winning HBO documentary Manhunt, has appeared as a guest commentator on CNN, ABC, MSNBC and as a resource for journalists at the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and other major international and national media outlets.
About the MSC Student Conference on National Affairs: SCONA is a committee within the Memorial Student Center. SCONA produces a fall program and spring conference annually. At the conference, SCONA brings delegates from all over the nation and world to participate in the discussion of topics important to our nation through facilitated roundtables that culminate in policy proposals. For more than 60 years, SCONA has brought students together, not just to discuss the important issues of our time, but also to make friends along the way.
