Underscoring the emphasis on campus safety at Texas A&M University, the Corps of Cadets provides escort service for students, staff and faculty — especially late at night — who want to be accompanied to their destination.

The Cadet Escort Program, which has been available for many years, is available between the hours of 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. week days and all day on weekends. Escorts are provided to and from the library, classroom buildings, parking areas, residence halls and other campus locations.

Cadets performing escort duty are professional and respectful at all times, says Brig. Gen. Joe E. Ramirez Jr., commandant of the Corps of Cadets.
He explains they will escort the requestor to the stated destination, and have that individual sign an escort receipt acknowledging being escorted safely. The cadet escort is not allowed on the premises (residence hall, dorm room, vehicle, etc.) of the person being escorted, he notes.

Students, staff and faculty desiring a cadet escort can call the Corps of Cadets guard room at (979) 845-6789 and provide their name, location, destination and contact information. The guard room will dispatch a cadet from the duty company to meet the individual and provide the requested escort service to the stated destination, free of charge.

Gen. Ramirez emphasizes the Corps develops well-educated leaders of character who embody the values of honor, courage, integrity, discipline and selfless service, are academically successful, highly sought-after, and prepared for the global leadership challenges of the 21st Century.

The Corps of Cadets is in its 140th year of training leaders for service to the state and nation since 1876. Cadets learn leadership in a military-style environment that complements their academic education and prepares them for a lifetime of success. While cadets can earn commissions as military officers as well as pursue careers in the public or private sector, membership in the Corps itself carries no military obligation.
