Riverside Campus Reopens

Texas A&M’s Riverside Campus has reopened and all employees headquartered there should now report for work this morning (Friday) university officials announced. The outlying campus had been scheduled to reopen at noon today in wake of possible toxic fumes reaching the area from a nearby fertilizer plant fire yesterday (Thursday), but officials determined that the underlying precautionary measures prompting the delayed opening there have been satisfactorily addressed. The university’s main campus reopened and classes were resumed this morning, as previously announced.

Texas A&M Main Campus to Reopen Friday Morning

Texas A&M University officials have announced that the main campus will reopen Friday and classes will resume.

The university closed late Thursday afternoon as a precautionary measure in the wake of possible toxic fumes reaching the area from a fertilizer plant fire near Bryan. While the main campus is scheduled to resume normal operations Friday, employees who reside in the current evacuation zone are urged to contact their immediate supervisors about reporting to work Friday morning.

The outlying Riverside Campus, given its close proximity to the incident site, will remain closed until noon Friday as a precautionary measure. Employees headquartered at that facility should check the web (www.tamu.edu) or contact their immediate supervisors for the most current information as the morning progresses.

Reed Arena will remain open as long as needed to provide temporary shelter for Brazos County residents who have been advised to leave their homes and businesses. Also, nearby Pearce Pavilion will continue to accommodate pets from affected areas.

Everyone associated with the university and other interested individuals are advised to check local media outlets early Friday morning in the event conditions change overnight that could prompt adjustments to current plans.
