Rec Sports is offering help to those looking for a great summer job or a challenging career as a professional lifeguard by offering American Red Cross Lifeguard Training.

“Taking a lifeguard training course through Rec Sports allows future lifeguards to earn and practice their skills in a diverse aquatic environment,” said aquatics coordinator Lynne Barber. “From learning how to do a reaching assist in our outdoor pool to learning how to backboard in our 17-foot dive well, lifeguard trainees will gain knowledge and skills they need to work in any aquatic facility.”

Rec Sports lifeguard training classes provide the training necessary to be prepared for aquatic emergencies as well as certification through the American Red Cross. Participants learn First Aid techniques, surveillance skills, rescue skills, auto external defibrillation, professional rescuer CPR and oxygen administration, she adds.

Lifeguard training sessions are scheduled for Jan. 26–Feb. 1, April 6–12, April 13–19 and April 20–26. The cost of training is $150 for Rec members and $175 for others. Cost covers instruction, course materials and necessary rental equipment unless otherwise stated. Register by visiting the Member Services desk inside the Rec Center.
