Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. the student-run non-profit organization, CARPOOL, is serving the Bryan/College Station area with free rides home. Recognizing that, although it is helping make the Aggie experience a safe one, it is not without cost, Timothy J. Rabroker ’82 committed a gift of $25,000 to establish the Slovacek Sausage CARPOOL Endowment.

“My hope is that Aggies grasp the true potential of what CARPOOL is really doing,” he says. “CARPOOL not only saves lives, it also helps change a mindset: that regardless of certain choices we can still act responsibly and further enhance that move of a responsible paradigm shift in attitude.”

A native of Westphalia in Falls County, Rabroker received a bachelor of science in food science from Texas A&M in 1982. A successful businessman and president of the Slovacek Sausage Company, Rabroker is a member (and past president) of the Texas and American Association of Meat Processors, as well as an affiliate of Southwest Meat Association. Active in his community, he serves on the Burleson St. Joseph Rural Health Clinic Governance Council and on the Burleson County Industrial Foundation as a board member. In 2007, Rabroker received the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness Award, recognizing an agriculture producer or business that has gone above and beyond in supporting agriculture and promoting the industry, while philanthropically contributing to the community.

CARPOOL has benefitted from his generosity, inspired by the efforts of students who dedicate time and energy to such a worthwhile cause. “Over the past several years I have witnessed time and again the immense dedication and passion that these students display. CARPOOL’s members are truly making an impact on their fellow Aggies and their outreach to initiate sister programs across the country is highly commendable,” he states.

Rabroker hopes that his gift persuades others to give to Texas A&M student programs. “Looking at the mechanics of CARPOOL it does not take long to see the real need for a secure and stable source of income. We need to ensure this income so CARPOOL’s members can continue to focus on their mission: Caring Aggies Are Protecting Over Our Lives.”
