The Texas A&M Rodeo Team sent six competitors to Casper, Wyoming for the College National Finals Rodeo. Five of those qualifiers made it to the finals round on Saturday, June 21.

The women’s team placed fifth in the nation out of over 70 schools, from the Ozarks to the West Coast. Lainey Kyle of Groesbeck won the finals round of the Breakaway Roping with a 2.1, the fastest time recorded all week. She ended up third in the nation among 51 competitors.

Courtney Sokol of Brenham had a great week in the Barrel Racing, ending up fourth in the nation.

Casi Sharp from San Augustine made the finals in sixth place in Goat Tying and ended up 11th, after her horse was less than cooperative – still a good finish with over 50 contestants competing in each event.

On the men’s side James Lockhart of Georgetown made the finals in tenth place and ended up 11th. Ace Slone of Cuero was in seventh place going into the finals, but his calf made a sharp right movement and he ended up 10th. Overall the team had their best finish since 2002, when they won the National Championship.
